The headline¶
[2026-05-25] Important correction. An earlier version of this page assumed an English-taught BSc Applied Mathematics. That is wrong: TU Delft's BSc Applied Mathematics is Dutch-taught only (official working language: Dutch). There is no English-taught maths BSc at Delft.3
Strongly applied math + NL quant pipeline, but reachable in English only via Computer Science. The realistic English route is the BSc Computer Science & Engineering with mathematics built on top — a creative mathematical-CS path, not a pure-maths degree. It fits the pure-math priority only loosely.
Department¶
TU Delft Applied Mathematics — one of the largest applied-math programmes in Europe (~190 students/year) — but it is taught in Dutch. Only four TU Delft bachelors are English-taught (Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Earth Climate & Technology, Nanobiology); none is a maths degree.3

The English route — CS & Engineering + mathematics (reported)¶
Since the maths BSc is Dutch, the workaround — reportedly used by real students, per experienced advisors — is to enter the English-taught BSc Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) and accumulate mathematical depth through it. The building blocks check out:4
- CSE is fully English-taught.
- The final year carries a ~30 ECTS minor slot or a semester abroad — room to take additional mathematics or go on exchange.
- TU Delft is linked to ETH Zürich through the Unitech and ENHANCE university networks, so an ETH Zürich exchange is structurally possible (competitive, not guaranteed).
This is a real, creative route to a strong mathematical-CS education — but it is not a pure-maths BSc, and for a pure-math priority, CS as the discipline label is a drawback. Treat it as a parallel option, not a primary one. To verify directly with Delft: exactly which maths modules/minor a CSE student can take in English, and realistic ETH-exchange selectivity.
[2026-05-26] Admissions reality (important): a Russian attestat does not qualify for CSE directly — TU Delft requires ≥60 ECTS (a full university year) in a related field first, and CSE is numerus fixus with a hard 15 January deadline. So this route presupposes a university year before transferring in; it is not a direct school-leaver option. A UK foundation year does not substitute either — full A-levels or ≥60 ECTS of university study are the accepted routes. See Admissions → TU Delft.
Pure vs. applied flavor¶
Strongly applied. Year 1 includes Analysis 1 and Linear Algebra with real rigor (metric spaces, measure-and-integration theory by Year 2), but cultural emphasis and module distribution lean applied — numerical methods, modelling, programming, financial engineering option.
Cohort / employability¶
Substantial Optiver / Flow Traders / IMC pipeline — these firms are Dutch and recruit heavily from Delft. The Optiver-TU-Delft Trading Academy is a formal partnership.2
For a quant-firm-in-NL outcome, Delft is in fact closer to target than any UK university outside COWI. Less natural pathway to UK quant or UK academic PhD.
Accessibility¶
For the (Dutch) maths BSc, you need VWO-level maths (TU Delft proves deficiencies via CCVX / Boswell-Bèta, not OMPT) and the programme is in Dutch — both binding. For the English CSE route, a Russian attestat is not sufficient on its own — TU Delft requires full A-levels or ≥60 ECTS of university study first (see the admissions note above) — so it is not the easy route it might seem.
