Warwick IFP (International Foundation Programme)

The STEM Maths & Stats route is the relevant track for maths/stats entry. One academic year, starts 28 September 2026.

Academic content — Maths & Stats route

Pure Mathematics + Mathematics & Statistics + supporting modules. Module-specific progression thresholds (see below) push the math content harder than UCL UPC.

STEP / TMUA / MAT preparation is layered on top — required for BSc Mathematics progression.

The progression criteria are explicit and public:1

85% on two distinct math modules + STEP Grade 1 is a serious bar. STEP Grade 1 is itself Cambridge / Imperial entry level.

If a student falls short of 85%, the 75% path opens Warwick CS or related programmes, but the pure-math destinations close.

Imperial via Warwick IFP

Imperial accepts Warwick IFP (Science & Engineering) for Mathematics entry.2 Specific grade thresholds for Imperial are not published — Imperial assesses foundation applicants competitively against A-level applicants.

Research surfaced a working claim: Imperial typically considers Warwick IFP applicants with ≥80% on math modules. This is not in Imperial's published policy and should be verified directly. The plausible interpretation: 80% on Warwick IFP math is roughly equivalent to the AAA + STEP combination Imperial expects from A-level applicants.

Bottom line: Imperial is reachable in theory from Warwick IFP at 80%+ on math modules, but it is a competitive assessment with no published guarantee.

Practitioner reputation

The IFP cohort is smaller than UCL UPC, and posts less on public forums. The most credible signal is the structural progression criteria themselves (which are unusually transparent for a UK foundation programme) and the Imperial-recognition (Imperial is famously conservative about accepting foundation routes).

The Warwick maths community itself is widely praised on forums (see Warwick):

For IFP specifically, first-person testimonials are sparse, but the structural rigour of the progression bars suggests the year is substantively math-loaded.

Why Warwick IFP is the primary choice

  1. Higher math content than UCL UPC — 85% bars on two math modules + STEP-1 forces a higher standard than UCL UPC's lower bar for UCL math BSc.
  2. Same Imperial-eligibility as UCL UPC — both routes are accepted; no disadvantage at Imperial; possibly slightly more competitive entry from Warwick IFP because the math standard is higher.
  3. Direct route to Warwick BSc Math — Warwick math is significantly stronger than UCL math (see UCL, Warwick).
  4. UCAS portability remains — Warwick IFP graduates can also apply to Edinburgh, Durham, Bristol, etc. post-foundation.
  5. Lower cost — £27,150 tuition + Coventry living (~£12k) vs. UCL UPC's London-premium £40-50k all-in.

Risk profile

The load-bearing variable is whether a student can clear 85% on two math modules + STEP-1.

From a no-calculus baseline, hitting 85% Pure Maths within nine months is ambitious but plausible with serious self-study (Stewart calculus + Strang linear algebra + STEP I past papers + Underground Mathematics).

A student scoring 75–84% would not progress to Warwick BSc Maths; Warwick CS opens at 75% (de-prioritised, but available as fallback). Post-foundation UCAS to Edinburgh / Durham / Bristol remains available regardless.

Application logistics

  • Deadline: 10 August 2026 (application). 21 August 2026 (final documents).
  • Application fee: £75.
  • Deposit: £2,000 (forfeit on voluntary withdrawal).
  • Tuition 2026/27: £27,150 standard; £29,950 Extended IFP (for weaker English starts — not needed at IELTS 7+).
  • Russian attestat: Russia is on Warwick's IFP-recommended list; admissions practice is attestat ≥4.5 overall, ≥4 in relevant subjects (≥5 for STEM). A 4.5+ attestat with strong STEM subjects clears this comfortably.

Open questions

  1. Imperial's actual Warwick IFP grade threshold for Mathematics — the "80%" claim is not on Imperial's published page. Email Imperial admissions.
  2. Warwick IFP → Warwick BSc Maths conversion rate — what proportion of IFP Maths-track students actually clear 85% + STEP-1? Not public.
  3. Module by module breakdown — Warwick publishes the route's progression criteria but not the cohort's grade distribution.
