Warwick IFP — application¶
The International Foundation Programme (Science & Engineering / Maths & Stats strand) is one of the two primary foundation routes, and one of only two foundations Imperial accepts. Applied for directly via Warwick's portal — not UCAS.
Deadlines (2026 entry)¶
- Standard IFP: 10 August 2026.
- Extended IFP (with pre-sessional English): 29 June 2026.
- Course runs 28 Sep 2026 → 3 Jul 2027. Decisions typically in ~7–10 working days.
What's required¶
- Online application form
- Personal statement — ≤600 words, three questions (~200 words each): (1) why the Warwick IFP and why your subject area; (2) how the IFP relates to your intended undergraduate degree and career ambitions; (3) either invite a guest speaker (who + what you'd ask) or describe yourself. A study gap of more than a year must be explained here.
- Recent school transcript (certified translation if needed)
- IELTS UKVI Academic: 5.5 overall, 5.5 Writing, 5.0 other components (Maths/Science/Engineering strand) — a relatively low bar
- No interview
- Visa applicants need a SELT (IELTS UKVI) for the CAS
Fees¶
- £75 non-refundable assessment fee
- £2,000 deposit to secure the place
- Tuition £27,150 (Extended £29,950)
Progression¶
- To Warwick BSc Mathematics / Maths & Stats / MORSE: achieve the strand's required grade profile — the demanding 85%-Pure + 85%-Maths-&-Stats + STEP picture (see the Warwick IFP route and the math-axis deep dive).
- Imperial accepts this IFP at ≥80% overall and ≥80% in the maths modules (possibly + STEP).
Chances¶
Realistic and well-suited to applicants entering from a school-leaving certificate: the entry IELTS is low, there is no admissions test or interview at entry, and the programme is built to take students from roughly that starting point. The hard part is progression, not admission — the 80–85% bars to the top BSc destinations are demanding and depend on building up mathematics during the year.
Preparation¶
- IELTS UKVI Academic has a 4–6 week turnaround, so book early.
- A personal statement and a transcript (with certified translation if needed) are required.
- The academic reference has the longest lead time — request it first.
- Worth asking Warwick IFP admissions about the IFP → Warwick BSc Maths conversion rate.
