Comparison

A Russian-attestat holder cannot enter top-tier UK Mathematics BSc programmes directly — a recognised foundation year is the bridge. This page compares the foundation routes themselves; for the application process to each, see Admissions.

The two routes Imperial accepts

Imperial Mathematics accepts only:1

  1. Warwick IFP (Science & Engineering pathway)
  2. UCL UPC (UPCSE — Science & Engineering strand)

Any other foundation route closes Imperial as a UCAS option after the foundation year.

Quick comparison

Dimension UCL UPC (UPCSE) Warwick IFP (STEM Maths & Stats)
Math content depth Strong (A-level + Further Maths + STEP prep) Stronger — 85% bar pushes harder
Progression to own university ~80-82% bundled2 85% Pure + 85% Maths-and-Stats + STEP-1 to Warwick BSc Math3
Imperial-accepted Yes1 Yes (≥80% math modules per common practice; not in Imperial's published policy)
UCAS portability High High
Application fee £130 £75
Deposit (forfeit on withdrawal) £2,750 £2,000
Tuition 2026/27 ~£28,000 £27,150
All-in foundation year ~£46-52k ~£40k
Location London (Bloomsbury) Coventry (campus)
Deadline 8 July 2026 10 August 2026

Verdict: Warwick IFP is the primary application; UCL UPC is the parallel application for portability + London life.

Other UK foundation options on radar

  • NCUK IFY (via INTO Manchester, MPW, etc.) — broad UK Russell Group access but not Warwick / UCL / Imperial / KCL / LSE / Cambridge. Useful as a Russell Group safety net (Edinburgh, Durham, Bristol, Manchester at the strong end).
  • Bath ISC, ONCAMPUS London — currently de-prioritised because they progress mainly to Bath (math is applied) and don't reach the pure-math top tier.

Alternatives to foundation year

Alternatives — UK A-level schools (2-year, 1-year fast track), self-taught online A-levels. Comparison and verdict.

A note on quality

Foundation year quality varies wildly between providers. Many are "do-nothing years" — paid bridges between non-UK school qualifications and UK BSc entry with little substantive learning. The Imperial-recognised pair (Warwick IFP + UCL UPC) are exceptions; both are reportedly substantive in their math tracks. See alternatives for the broader caveat.
